The idea shelf / Questions worth exploring

What if
we tried?

Most good ideas begin with someone noticing that something could work a little better. This is where I explore those possibilities, ask questions, and share ideas that might be worth pursuing.

01 / Three starting pointsDifferent problems. New possibilities.

The questions
behind better ideas.

Sometimes an idea starts with a task that takes too long, information that doesn't quite fit together, or a familiar way of doing things that nobody has questioned.

Here are three examples of how I'd begin exploring those situations. Select a card to see where the thinking might lead.

IDEA / 01Workflow

Why are we still doing this by hand?

Every week, someone spends valuable time copying information, checking details, sending emails and remembering what needs to happen next.

Explore this idea

Ask: Which tasks are repeated, and which ones actually need a person's attention?

Try: Map out the process and find one repetitive task that could be safely automated.

Learn: Could we reduce mistakes, save time and make everyone's work a little easier?

IDEA / 02Integration

Why don't these systems talk to each other?

A business uses several applications that work well individually, but information has to be copied between them or doesn't always match.

Explore this idea

Ask: Where is information being duplicated, lost or becoming inconsistent?

Try: Explore how two existing systems could share information automatically without replacing either one.

Learn: Could connecting them reduce duplicated work, improve accuracy and make information easier to find?

IDEA / 03Experiment

What if there's another way?

Sometimes we continue doing things a particular way simply because that's how they've always been done. But what if there's a better approach nobody has considered?

Explore this idea

Ask: What assumptions are we making, and what would happen if we challenged one?

Try: Explore an alternative approach through research, a simple demonstration or a small, practical test.

Learn: What have we discovered, and could this open the door to something better?

02 / From question to discoverySmall steps. Useful insights.

Let's see where
the idea leads.

Having an idea is just the beginning. The interesting part is exploring whether it could work, what we might learn along the way, and whether there's something worth pursuing.

01 / Observe

Spot the opportunity

Notice something that could work better and understand who it affects.

02 / Question

Ask why

Challenge the assumptions and explore what might be possible.

03 / Explore

Give it a try

Use research, a demonstration or a small test to see whether the idea has potential.

04 / Learn

Decide what's next

Look at what worked, what didn't, and whether to improve, rethink or pursue the idea.

03 / Your question?

Every great idea
starts with a what if  ?
